How to Compare Gross and Net Offers
Gross, net, and cost to company are separate payroll measures. This guide uses the monthly 2026 model for an insured employee with no variable pay.
Identify the measure
Gross is pay before employee insurance, income tax, and Law 4.3. Net is what remains after those deductions. Cost to company adds employer insurance to gross. A salary figure without its measure is incomplete.
Ask whether the number is monthly, whether it is base pay, and whether variable pay is included. Record the answer before comparing offers.
Convert net to gross
The calculator searches for gross that reproduces a target net. It cannot use a fixed percentage because tax is progressive and insurance has a cap.
Calculator results: 7,000.00 EGP net requires 8,184.52 EGP gross; 15,000.00 net requires 19,114.57 gross; 30,000.00 net requires 38,501.56 gross.
Why percentages fail
Below the cap, a base raise can increase employee insurance. Above 16,700.00 EGP, employee insurance is 1,837.00 EGP in the model. Tax depends on annual taxable income.
A fixed conversion percentage cannot reflect those changes or a custom insurable wage.
Read gross examples
Calculator outputs are 6,860.50 EGP net from 8,000.00 gross, 15,707.90 from 20,000.00 gross, and 38,618.08 from 50,000.00 gross. They are illustrations, not universal rates.
Keep commission, overtime, cost of living, and transportation separate. The calculator makes variable pay taxable but not insured.
Ask payroll specific questions
Ask if the quote is gross, net, or CTC; whether you are insured; the insurable wage; which items are variable; and what other deductions apply.
A loan, advance, or private insurance can affect the bank transfer but is not a standard calculator deduction.
- Quoted measure and period.
- Insured status and insurable wage.
- Base and variable components.
- Other deductions.
Compare like with like
A 15,000.00 EGP net promise aligns with 19,114.57 EGP gross only when the model assumptions match. Different insurance inputs change the comparison.
Keep gross, modelled net, and CTC in separate columns. CTC is not employee income.
Use the annual tax basis
The calculator applies the 20,000.00 EGP annual exemption and annual tax slices before returning monthly tax. Full conversion is safer than guessing a monthly withholding rate.
Examples assume a full year at the same pay. Confirm actual payroll treatment with the employer.
Make a clear negotiation request
State the net result you want and request confirmation of gross, insurance status, insurable wage, and components. If an employer quotes gross, show the corresponding modelled net.
The calculator supports a transparent comparison; payroll confirms its actual inputs.
